So, What's Your Story?

What is My.WorksCited.Net (formerly known as PersonalTimeline.Net)?
It's a public database for anecdotes. Whether you're researching a serious biography, preparing your own memoirs, or just reminiscing with distant friends and family, you can jot down stories here and view them in chronological order, alongside selected other people's timelines.
How do I use My.WorksCited.Net?
Just click the icons at the top of each page to view events. If you log in, you can add events to your own timeline, and you may be able to see more of other users' timelines.
Why would I use this instead of a personal Web site or blog?
It's simpler than a personal Web site: you don't have to know any HTML or put up with advertisements. It's more organized than a blog: everything always displays in the order it happened, not the order you thought of it. And it's contextual: you can easily see how each event coincided with other events in your life and the lives of other people you care about.
Can I biographize other people as well as myself?
Sure! Just make sure you have their permission. I don't want any lawsuits.
Can I post private information about myself or other people here?
Please don't! Although your account has a password and you can control who sees which events, this is not a secure site. There is a very real possibility that your account could be compromised. Please do not write anything here that you wouldn't want someone else to read.
This looks a little unfinished. Will it get better?
You bet! For example, you can expect to soon be able to write a big batch of stories offline and upload them all at once. Got suggestions? Write me!
How does My.WorksCited.Net work?
The database is powered by MySQL, and the front-end is done with PHP.
So why is it called "My Works Cited?"
Well, the things you do in your life are your works, right? So when you write down what you've done, you're citing your works. But mainly I just had the domain name already.
What, if anything, does this site have to do with WorksCited.Net?
WorksCited.Net is a database of quotations for people who are writing research papers. My.WorksCited.Net is a database of anecdotes for people who are writing biographies or memoirs. They're both tools for researchers, and they share the same database file. In fact, I might make a timeline of all the quotes cited on WorksCited.Net, just for fun! (Since some of the quotes are several thousand years old, it would be a long timeline.)
